The STI Team celebrates the company's 25th Anniversary at Safari West in Sonoma County.

We're expanding our team and we're always looking for good people, even when a specific opening may not be indicated on our website. STI welcomes resumes from qualified individuals who are interested in working in the air quality arena and have a strong interest in air pollution issues.

STI in Brief

STI provides innovative science-based solutions for clients' air quality and meteorological needs worldwide. We listen, we act, we deliver.

We serve our clients in a variety of ways: meteorological and air quality measurements, modeling, emissions, data analysis, geographic information systems, custom instrumentation, training and education, specialized software development, exposure assessment, air quality forecasting, fire/forest ecology, and policy analysis. We have conducted major studies across the United States as well as projects in Canada, Mexico, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Egypt, China, Qatar, and Antarctica.

Our integrated teams of atmospheric scientists, engineers, information technology specialists, and professional publications staff deliver products and services tailored to meet each client's unique needs. We are dedicated to clearly conveying relevant information to enable informed decisions by government and industry about air quality issues.

We collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies; universities and educational institutions, and industry on a variety of projects. Our senior scientists serve as members of university faculty, government advisory committees, and journal editorial boards. STI scientists regularly publish in scientific journals; act as peer reviewers for journals, associations, and government agencies; and actively participate in public education programs.

Founded in 1982, STI is an employee-owned company based in Petaluma, California. STI employees have voted the company one of the Best Places to Work in Sonoma County two years in a row.

  • Running the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's AIRNow system to acquire and display real-time air quality data, which are available hourly to the public at www.airnow.gov
  • Providing an e-mail alerting service called AirAlert that notifies parents, teachers, and coaches of unhealthy air quality so they can take preventive action to reduce exposure to unhealthy air (www.myairalert.net)
  • Forecasting air quality for many cities in the United States to protect the health of millions of people
  • Monitoring air pollutants inside and outside homes and schools to determine what exacerbates asthma, particularly in children
  • Helping decision makers estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the benefits of potential GHG controls
  • Providing real-time smoke information and smoke forecasts to firefighters and air pollution agencies during large wildfire events
  • Monitoring carbon monoxide on lakes to detect hot spots to help prevent accidental deaths aboard boats

STI's Working Environment

Sonoma Technology, Inc. (STI) is headquartered in Petaluma, California, in picturesque Sonoma County. Located just 40 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge, STI offers the excitement and culture of San Francisco and the charm and natural beauty of the North Bay (Marin and Sonoma Counties).

STI is located at the gateway to Northern California’s wine country—scenic Sonoma and Napa Valleys are within a 30-minute drive. The San Francisco North Bay Area is home to over a dozen state parks, beaches, and reserves, as well as Muir Woods National Monument, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and Point Reyes National Seashore.
